Modular Sequencer - User Manual

Modular Sequencer is a fully patchable sequencer where you are able to connect every module to the other. design sequences from concrete to euclidian or totally random and stay in harmony together with Chord-O-Mat 3 or Scale-O-Mat 4

Overview

The Modular Sequencer has three Sections:

The Sequencer Section: with 4 Value Seuquencers, these can send out Values to Pitch, Velocity, Octace & Duration and they can also send Out Triggers.

It’s possible to randomize the most parameters, and create generative Sequences. It’s also possible to create repetitiv Sequences, depending on the patching of the Device.

The Modulation & Switching Section: You can route any Output Trigger or On/Off message thru the Modulation Section, where you’re able to invert and also reduce the Messages. And send out Values or Triggers for switching things with a different Bahaviour.

With the switches you can make a lot of variations when triggering Actions.

The Routing Section: Here you have four Outputs. Inside each Output you can route every of the four Value Sequencers to the Pitch, Velocity, Octave and Duration. So, you can make some Variations from your Melodie of the same Sequence.

Also it’s possible to select a Scale and/or learn Notes & Scales with an connected Midikeyboard or from the Chord-O-Mat 3 Device.

Outputs

Here you have up to four Outputs, where you can set up different scale, chords and routings.

Patching

You can connect every Output to every Input,  just by drag & drop or with click on an patchpoint and click on another patchpoint.

If you want to delete a connection, you can do it on the same way or just hold a connected patchpoint and press “X” on your Keyboard

In- / Outputs

Outputs can send Triggers and On/Off Values.

The most Inputs can only receive triggers.
Some Inputs, like “up/down”, “Note OUT on/off”, can handle both.

If receiving a trigger it toggles between on and off.

If receiving On/Off the Button takes over this state.

Sequencer Trigger Out

Every Sequencer has an Output, where you can get an On/Off message from. This is the main source to Trigger Actions, for example Notes

Trigger IN

On the Output Section you have these four Inputs, where the Notes are Triggered. If you simply connect an Output from one Trigger Sequencer to an Input, a Note will be played on every ON Message from the Sequencer.

Please Note: if here’s nothing Connected, no Midi Note will be played.

Value Sequencer

On the Top you find four Value Sequencers with 16 Steps. You can set up:

  • Speed
  • restart
  • forward / backwards playback
  • set random values
  • hold
  • Threshold for the Triggers
  • and the Trigger Output

To the Patchpoints you can patch a Trigger Signal in. Beside on evrey Patch Point you can trigger the action with the mouse.

Assign the Value Sequencers

You can assign every Value Sequencer to any Parameter of one of the Outputs.

Via the dropdown menu you are able to let control, like in this example the:

  • Notes by Sequencer 1
  • Velocity by Sequencer 2
  • Octave by Sequencer 3
  • Duration by Sequencer 4
In the Dropdown menu you can also define that a parameter has a fixed Value, which isn't controlled by any Sequencer.

Outputs

You can use up to four Outputs to make different Sequences or variations of Sequences. Every Output has a routing Panel to assign the

Value Sequencers to Note, Velocity, Octave and Duration

Here you can exclude Note, Velocity, Octave or Duration from Randomisation in this example only Note, Octave and Duration will be randomised.

This is useful if you should trigger the randomise function by some actions of the sequencer.

Scale Correction

match the Notes to a Scale

every Output can be locked to the Scale or to Individual Notes or Chords.

The Chords could be played live via a connected Keyboard, by Midiclips or also with the Chord-O-Mat 3 Device. In this case that means it has a similiar function like an Arpeggiator.

the scale correction is off, all Notes could be played.
Only the Notes from the selected Scale will be played

Learn Notes & Chords

To adapt the Output to a Chord or even a single Note, you have the option to just learn the played Notes or let them instantly change, when something is played.

If learn is activated and you play a chord or a single note, the Output will be locked to the notes.

After you release the Notes, the learn button will be switched off

Instant learn

If instant is activated, the Notes will follow what you play

Chord-O-Mat 3 + Modular Sequencer

on the right bottom of the Scale Correction, you find a Button you can switch between

M = Midi
C = Chord-O-Mat

When it’s set to Midi, the incommig Midinotes can change the Scale.

When it’s set to Chord-O-Mat the Output will follow the Chord Progression of Chord-O-Mat.

Swing Designer

If the “confirm input to Scale” is ON, the incomming Midi Notes for the learn function will be mapped to the selected Scale.
