what is Scale-O-Mat?

Scale-O-Mat lets you transform and constrain musical scales throughout your entire Ableton Live project, affecting multiple tracks. You can access all the native scales available in Ableton Live.

The Scale-O-Mat device automatically detects all native Ableton Live Scale Midi Effects within your Live project and communicates directly with the one you have assigned.
With Scale-O-Mat you can match a Scale or Chord to the native Scale Devices, transforming or filtering the incoming MIDI notes of different tracks.

In addition to choosing scales, you can play them live using a Keyboard or Chord-O-Mat. This enables real-time transformation of scale matching and filtering.

Review of Scale-O-Mat 4

You can start simple – the devices let you change a scale over the whole project. You can filter out notes that don’t fit the scale, or constrain notes to the scale you want. That could mean basic transpositions, too – for instance, if needed by instrumentalists or vocalists. But Scale-O-Mat goes deeper, too, with multiple devices that talk to one another, up to four different groups, a chord feature, presets, and of course, a ton of scales.
